Coombe Abbey, Warwickshire (B walk) - 11 November 2015

We did 11 miles on this walk, which was fairly flat so not as strenuous as it could have been. Like good ramblers we all trooped through a gate (a relic of days gone by, which stood alone in the middle of a field without a fence to keep it company (see photo. Only problem was that when we reached the pub it had closed!! Fortunately we were at Brinklow which is quite large so there was a fish & chip shop and a sandwich shop there and another pub kindly let us eat our sandwiches inside as it did not do food. All very amusing and no one went hungry.

Coombe Abbey was founded in 1150 AD by Cistercian Monks, then known as the Abbey of Cumbe. It has an illustrious past; Dissolution by King Henry VIII, Private residency to royalty, involvement in the infamous Gunpowder Plot to name but a few…

Bought in 1992 by No Ordinary Hotels today it welcomes guests from far and wide and continues to go from strength to strength.
